World Test Championship

If you ask any cricket player which is the toughest format to play ?? without any hesitation the answer would be “Test” format.

Test cricket is traditionally a format of cricket where the matches are played for long durations, and is considered to be the game’s highest standard, by looking the format name itself you can have an idea about it. Test cricket is a real deal and it really tests your patience, persistence and on a whole level it’s a battle of not just your skills but it’s a battle of your mental and physical strength.

After the introduction of T20I’s, Test cricket has gradually started to loose its popularity almost that at some stage  several eyebrows have raised over the existence of this format of the game. In this T20I era where purely entertainment and fast paced results rules, it has become hard for test cricket to fill that void and hence ICC has come up with few changes to bring back the glory such as the introduction of Day/Night Test matches and World Test Championship.

WTC is unique and is one of its own kind, this tournament has planned in such a way that over the course of two years each team will be played home and away series and will be given points depending on the number of matches a team wins and the top two table toppers will be played against each other in the final for the trophy. Although due to COVID-19 pandemic many teams haven’t played matches as much as it was expected and there is still some improvement for the point system the first WTC has come to its final stages. Team India and New Zealand will be playing against each other in the final for the WTC, While England will be hosting this final.

Two very good sides, will be going to face off each other in the final. Both the teams have superstars in their side such as Virat kohli, Rohit Sharma, Ravindra Jadeja, Bumrah, Ashwin, Kane Williamson, Trent Boult, Tim Southee, Ross Taylor. Battle between these superstars will be mouthwatering and is going to be very interesting.

Coming to the preparations for the final New Zealand seemingly have the upper hand as they have recently played a two match test series against England in England and beating the English team just before the final they surely will be high on confidence, though team India doesn’t have much match practice as New Zealand had but they cannot be taken lightly. After the series win against the kangaroos in most inspiring way they have put a good show against England in the home series as well they surely will be having their eye on WTC.

Intresting fact is that New Zealand has never won an ICC trophy they have very close to it in recent times, they’re the finalists of 2015, 2019 world cup and on the other hand India has also failed to grab a trophy after reaching semi finals in 2015 & 2019 world cups and final in 2017 champions trophy. The very New Zealand team who has kicked out Team India from 2019 world cup will be playing against them in the final.

Can New Zealand create history for the first time by winning an ICC trophy or Team India will be taking their revenge of 2019 world cup and succeed in keeping their hands on WTC ??
we are going to find out in next couple of days.
